Can an AI really escape and make itself better?

A model is not a virus copying itself onto 10,000 machines. The realistic scenario is different, and the real question is not whether an AI escapes.

A model is not a virus copying itself onto 10,000 machines. The “escape” image comes from films, not from the engine room.

What is realistic: a system gets too many rights and too little oversight, then it does exactly what it is rewarded for. Not because it is evil. Because nobody set the boundaries cleanly.

So the real question is not whether an AI escapes. It is: who may trigger it, what it can touch, and who stops it when the result is wrong, expensive, or dangerous.

I see this every month. An agent with production access is more powerful than any demo chat window. The risk sits in permissions, not in a consciousness rewriting itself.

People who take this seriously build boring systems: logs, approvals, rollback. Unspectacular. That is why they work.
